What can HPWD do to improve traffic to my existing site?

I purposely phrased the headline of this post to be a bit short sighted. The simple answer to my shortsighted question is yet another question you may want to first consider...How do you know what your traffic is now? And, what are the 'calls to action' you are using on your web site? The thing is, it doesn't matter how many people are visiting your web site if they only come to browse and then vanish. An interactive web site will generate substantially more 'leads' than a non-interactive site. Why? Let's compare shopping for a dentist online with shopping for vegetables. And, for the sake of comparison, let's look first at shopping for both dentists and vegetables non-interactively. In our non-interactive illustration, we ( the shoppers ) are presented with pictures and information about the dentists and vegetables. "The tomatoes are ripe and red and are sure to delight your taste buds". "Dr. Cybersmith graduated with honors from the University of Bicuspid and is board certified." In this non-interactive shopping adventure, I ( the shopper ) had a goal in mind before I went shopping. On the vegetable side, I wanted to buy some green beans and artichokes. But the web site had only information about tomatoes. On the dentist web site visit, I wanted to know what other patients thought of Dr. Cybersmith's pain management techniques. Instead, I learned about his post-graduate GPA and he enjoys flyfishing. I left each website never to return again. With the same goals in mind, let's go to a couple of interactive web sites. DavesOldFashionedVeggieTruck.com is a nice web site that has a blog, a 'recipe corner' where some of Dave's customer's submit their favorite seasonal recipes online. He also has a delivery route and an on-line calendar which shows that Dave will be in my neighborhood this evening.
